Future of water mobilizes international specialists in Rio.

More than 100 specialists from countries such as USA, France, Spain, South Africa and Chile, in addition to Brazilians, arrive in Rio de Janeiro, in November, to debate the the future of water on the planet. It is the Rio Water Week, the world’s most important event on water issues, that for the first time will be held in Brazil. Registration is open at

Around 1,500 people are expected on the 26th, 27th and 28th of November 2018 at Riocentro, to participate in lectures focused on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal # 6: Ensure access to water and sanitation for all by 2030. Topics such as governance and planning; efficient management; education and training; financing; and climate changes will be covered.

The event, that in Brazil will be coordinated by the Brazilian Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering (Abes), already takes place in countries like Sweden and Singapore. “We are adapting some of the aspects we find positive in the organization and planning of the World Water Forum and in previous Water Weeks. Among them, I would highlight a very relevant participation of partner organizations, that will coordinate the 65 sessions of the event”, says Abes’ national VP, Carlos Alberto Rosito, ambassador of the event.

Professionals, universities, companies and global organizations intend to cover existing challenges, public policies and solutions and technologies in Brazil and the world. Among the lecturers, Dhesigen Naidoo, from the Water Research Commission of South Africa; Enrique Cabrera, Spanish, expert and member of the International Water Association (IWA); Paula Kehoe, American, director of Water Resources at the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission; and the Brazilians Jorge Luiz Briard, president of Cedae, and Karla Bertocco Trindade, president of Sabesp.



Cape Town wins big at the Routes Africa 2018 Marketing Awards

Cape Town is welcoming even more visitors with new flights into the Mother City.

Despite its strict two-minute shower rule and dry swimming pools, tourists are still flocking in to Cape Town and now via even more routes than before.

The city recently scored high at the Routes Africa 2018 Marketing Awards on 17 July, in Ghana. Not only did Cape Town Air Access scoop the overall winner prize, they were also awarded Destination Marketing. In addition, Cape Town won top award for airports serving between 4-20 million passengers.

In May this year RwandaAir introduced flights into Cape Town four times a week with the extension of its Kigali-Harare route.

Parisian airline Joon also introduced a flight to Cape Town from Paris.

Singapore and Hong Kong are also creating smooth paths for visitors to Cape Town with Singapore Airlines flying in via Johannesburg and Cathay Pacific introducing direct flights in November this year, thanks to Cape Town Air Access.

“Awards of this nature are key for helping to position Cape Town as world class. The growth we’ve seen through the Air Access initiative has been exceptional – 17 route expansions and 13 new routes are incredible. As an airport we are gearing up to ensure that we are able to meet the demand of this growth through our planned infrastructure development programme” said Deidre Davids, Senior Manager, Corporate Affairs for Cape Town International Airport.

Increased tourism revenue.

There has been a concerted effort to improve or expand African routes by several airlines over the past couple of years, and it’s paid off in a very short time. The 13 new routes and 17 expanded routes has brought a 21% increase of international travellers into Cape Town.

Not only is this popular city bagging top global awards for their expanded routes but these increased access points into Africa are estimated to have injected an additional R4 billion in tourism spend into Cape Town’s economy.

Why Cape Town?

So, what is it about Cape Town that fills planes with millions of tourists every year?

Well, for starters, the views from anywhere are outstanding. Table Mountain, the city’s main attraction is an official Natural Wonder and forms the backdrop of the city. No travelling miles to visit it, and no queuing, unless you are heading up the cable car to gasp at the spectacular views from the top. If not, you’re just required to look up and marvel at it’s grandeur and 2 600 different floral species covering its mountainsides, from anywhere in the city.

Also, Cape Town has award-winning beaches. Robben Island (a world heritage site) and some of the best restaurants and coffee shops in the world.

The city and the hospitality industry are delighted to welcome more visitors from around the world with these new routes, with so much to offer, it’s not surprising that more airlines are adding Cape Town International to their flight paths.
